Frequently Asked Questions
Is your farm part of the Community Supported Agriculture movement?
Yes. Willow Haven Farm wants to be your supplier for fresh, local vegetables. We want you to know where your food is grown and how it is produced. Visits are welcome throughout the year. We hope that you will consider the benefits of supporting small food producers in your area. Our product is different from a supermarket because you are able to meet the farmer and enjoy the farm as well as the food.
What is Community Supported Agriculture?
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) offers community members the opportunity to support local farmers by purchasing shares in the farming enterprise. This exchange enables consumers to know how and where their food is being produced and provides farmers capital necessary for production. CSA participants support local food production by sharing both the bounty and the risks inherent in farming.

How much will I receive in a share?
A share consists of 7-9 types of vegetables each week and usually an herb. For people that eat a lot of vegetables, the share will be enough for 2-3 people. For families that eat normal to small portions, it will be enough for 4-6 people. Keep in mind that eating habits vary a lot between people. If you regularly cook 3-4 meals/week, you should be able to enjoy all of the vegetables in your share. We encourage you to find ways to eat more vegetables during the summer and if you find that you have extra, share it with your neighbors.
What vegetables will I receive each week?
Early in the season, you will receive items that thrive in cool weather like peas, lettuce, brocolli, spinach, radishes, and cabbage. During the middle of the season, your share will have more items such as beans, tomatoes, peppers, zuchinni, melons and more. Later in the season, you will find more cool season crops, kale, potatoes, lettuce, and squash. I also will be growing some herbs like basil, dill, chives, and cilantro.
What if I don't like the vegetables that I receive?
Many people have at least one variety of vegetable that they do not like. We find that often a new recipe will change your opinion. Some people find creative ways to put vegetables in desserts such as carrot cake or in soups. This website has many great recipies.
We will offer some choices this year for our farm pick-up members. We hope this will help some of you receive more of your favorites and less vegetables that you will not use.
How do I use the vegetables that I receive?
If you wonder how to prepare vegetables that you are not used to eating, we recommend purchasing From Asparagus to Zucchini, produced by the Madison Area Community Supported Agriculture Coalition.
The internet has countless recipe resources. You may want to try www.allrecipes.com.
Do you raise the meat that you are offering?
This year, I have the priviledge of offering meat from Rainbow farm. The meat will be available as a CSA share and at various times throughout the year. Rainbow Farm is also managed with organic practices. The meat you order will be frozen and delivered to a cooler that you set out. I hope you try some this year.
Rainbow Farm will also be providing some of the eggs that I deliver. You can read more about this farm in the 'Our Product' section of the website.
